Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding
Advisory role in preparing a planning proposal as part of a contract agreement.
The project
In 2020, Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, an American shipyard in Wisconsin, is negotiating the construction of a new trailing suction hopper dredger for an American dredging company. Before finalizing such an enormous contract, it is, of course, necessary for all parties involved to have a clear picture of how such a project can proceed, what everyone can roughly expect and what the possible pitfalls are. Only then can FBS make a realistic estimate of the construction process and make a realistic proposal regarding more specific planning and costs. FBS looks for help in drafting this concept.

OUR ROLE
More specifically, they are looking for a partner with technical knowledge of dredge construction orders and planning to advise them in this bidding phase. After all, different types of ships are built in different ways, and specific components are not always created simultaneously and in the same order. This also applies to dredgers. There is also a practical component: requested materials and components must be available and must not disrupt schedules by delayed delivery times. But of course, there is much more to it than meets the eye. In addition, FBS is looking for a co-builder who, with a licensed partner, can conduct a technical review on the topics of naval architecture, the dredging system and the electrical components.

WHY US
This is how Thomas Combe, who previously carried out a similar project for Critical Minds, comes into the picture. He can offer advice based on the specifications and contract documentation, which, along with dredging system delivery information and the technical naval architecture part, makes up the tender proposal planning. This, combined with the concept execution plan that has been drawn up, forms the basis for FBS’s submission of more realistic planning and technically feasible bids to the American dredging company.
