Royal IHC
Helping provide insight into where and how an organization can get a major project operational.
The project
Region: Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Project Summary: Royal IHC’s Dredge Equipment division (IHC DE) supplies dredging systems and components both internally to its shipyard and directly to external clients. Following the rapid acquisition of several large projects in 2016 and the preceding period, IHC faced the challenge of ensuring its organizational structure could support the increased and sustained workload. This period of growth prompted a broader internal review, including an assessment of departmental performance and efficiency. As part of this process, the Project Management Office (PMO) required a structured evaluation to determine whether existing resources, capacity, and processes were sufficient to manage the project pipeline effectively.

OUR ROLE
CoWaves supported Royal IHC through a structured capacity and process assessment within the Project Management Office and adjacent departments. We evaluated the available and projected engineering capacity to determine alignment with the incoming project workload. This analysis was then extended to the Purchasing and Production departments, where CoWaves helped define clear internal priorities based on production capacity and procurement constraints. The combined assessment provided management with a fact-based foundation for decision-making and organizational alignment.
Complexity
WHY US
CoWaves was selected for its deep technical knowledge of large-scale dredging systems and its ability to translate complexity into practical, efficiency-driven recommendations. This expertise proved critical in prioritizing work, improving transparency around production capacity, and identifying opportunities for operational improvement. Equally important was CoWaves’ ability to quickly clarify the broader picture, communicate it effectively across departments, and build alignment—enabling informed decision-making and sustained organizational support.
